Beyond The Harlem Renaissance

Originally a Native American Village and later a Dutch farming community from whence it derives its name, most of what we know about Harlem & its African American population comes from the B movies & glaring newspaper headlines of the last century.

In this tour we explore the early African American pioneers of business, politics, entertainment, the arts and literature.

Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Madame C.J. Walker, Langston Hughes & many more personalities illuminate this history.

We discuss the new gentrification with both the positive and obviously negative effects as well as the new residents, from Africans to transplants from Idaho.
